Butter~bies

Yes Butterbies...thats what Isaac calls them anyway.:) A few weeks back we went butterfly catching. Isaiah had rehearsal for his program at church so my husband, me and our two youngest went to the park where we had a relaxing afternoon of chasing butterflies.

Look at my sweeties hunting for butterflies.

His daddy teaching him how to pick them up without hurting them.

What a wonderful afternoon!

Letter O Week

Since its been SO hot here in Texas we decided to go with a cooler theme this week. We did letter O is for Ocean! We learned all about sea animals and shells.
On Monday I planned our Muffin Tin Monday lunch around our theme.
Top : blue bubbles(marshmellows), Octopus(hot dog), Fish(goldfish crackers)
Bottom: Tiny Starfish(cereal stars), Seaweed(cucumber), Shells(mac and cheese shells)

We read millions of books about the ocean and Isaiah's favorite, the Shark. (I just wanna add that those shark book easy readers sure are graphic. The one we had talked about the shark ripping the flesh off the seal. hmmm a little much for a five year old I think. Thats all he would talk about the rest of the night.lol)

Some other fun "O" things we did were:
  • played the game Operation
  • read a childrens devotion (from our weekly devotions activity) about what it means to OBEY
  • watched Octonauts
  • made Orange Julius drinks
  • made cute little Octopus
  • practiced fishing with our Ocean puzzle
  • made Ocean animal handprints(rainbow fish)
  • LOTS of worksheets about ocean animals
  • made an Ocean waterbed outside(ok so we attempted...it actually didn't work at all so we made a slip and slide instead):)
  • we played many games that teach you about OBEYING:)...red light/green light, mother may I, and simon says
  • watched Finding Nemo
  • Had an Operation Kindness Day...this one I will post about VERY soon.
  • AND SO MUCH MORE>>>:)
Here are some of what I actually got pictures of this week!!!:

Our alphabet animal...O is for Ostrich!

Starfish- we cut out the starfish, added glue, and sprinkled on sand to get the full effect!

Making Orange Julius drinks

Isaac and our niece making Orange Julius drinks.

The kids Octopus. These turned out so good. We added cheerios for the suctions. Isaacs cracks me up because his has an eyeball growing out of the leg and Isaiahs has one big eye and one small. lol...so cute!

Our ocean in a bottle (or pickle jar)...hey sometimes you have to emprovise.lol

Ocean creatures spelling practice using scrabble words.

Some of the worksheets we did this week.

Finding the correct number for the ocean animal.

Seashell Observation sheet! Isaiah did this and circled the ones he thought fit with the shell. He did two different observations with the two different shells.

These are cute little pics of the kids when they saw there little octopus hot dogs.:)

Summer fun list- outdoor water mattress and Capri Sun popsicles

We are having a blast this summer marking things off our summer fun list. We have added a few things as well.
We attempted to make an outdoor water mattress but it was a complete FAIL. After working on getting it all taped up in 107 degree Texas heat we decided to ditch the wattress mattress project and make it into a huge slip and slide. We had our niece and nephew over and they all had a blast.
We layed out the plastic, hooked up three sprinlkers on the slide, blew up boogie boards and had so much fun. I couldn't even resist the urge to slide. I might of broke something but good news is I felt like a child again.lol...it was so rewarding.:)

The smile on Isaiah's face is priceless.

The boys broke out the sponge bombs as well!

Then we finished up our outdoor fun with Capri Sun popsicles. Next time I want to add fruit to the popsicles for even more fun!

Traveling Story Hour- The Ice Cream King

Our second Traveling Story Hour went great. We met some friends at our local ice cream shop and read a really cute story called the Ice Cream King. The kiddos ate ice cream of their choice and then they made ice cream crowns to wear! The boys had a great time!!!

Nana reading the kids the book. If you haven't read this book yet then you should. Its a fun little story.

Isaiah, Max and Isaac enjoying their ice cream.
Poor little Ian had to miss out on ice cream...maybe next year baby!!:)

Sweet little Sophia was loving that birthday cake ice cream.

The boys and girls crafting away!!!

My cute niece and her beautiful crown.

Homemade GAK

So as promised...here is our GAK experiment we made on Letter G week.  I got the recipe from this link  http://www.cometogetherkids.com/2010/08/gak.html. It was so surprisingly simple to make.

The boys helped pour the glue into the water and I quickly added the borax solution into the mix with food coloring as well. I didn't get any pics of the solutions mixing together because it all happened so fast and I didn't want to make any mistakes.

This was our final outcome....ooey gooey slimy stretchy GAK!

Talk about a boys best friend...anything that looks and feels like it came out of the nose is sure to be a winner in a boys mind, right?

This Gak gave the boys an amazing oppurtunity for sensory play. We talked about the different textures and smell. We also discovered that when rolled into a ball it bounces. They thought that was amazing and from then on it was a basketball tourney!

And there you have it folks...our amazing GAK experiment. lol:)
